Ensuring academic integrity and compliance in the online proctoring environment

Academic Integrity in relation to invigilation – particularly online – has become a big deal – and quite rightly so. The relevant TEQSA Standard requires “Providers must ensure that reasonable steps are taken to detect and deter misconduct during online exams.” In order to achieve the required level of integrity - invigilatorPlus has in place a number of key elements/strategies to ensure the standard is met.

Pre-Exam Integrity Measures

Institutions configure the assessment environment to match the risk profile of the exam, e.g. full screen mode and all smart tools enabled for high-stakes assessments.

Clear exam rules and behaviour expectations are communicated to students in advance and must be acknowledged before accessing the exam. Students cannot proceed without confirming that they have read and accepted these terms.

Optional practice sessions allow students to familiarise themselves with the platform, reducing last-minute workarounds or excuses.

During the exam

Live human proctors monitor exams in real time, observing student behaviour, environment, and exam compliance. Smart technology tools prevent unauthorised access to new tabs, right click, copy/paste and can expand into full screen mode.

All sessions are recorded with time-stamped incident flags added by experience Australian invigilators.

Post Exam

Post-exam, incidents are reviewed by a dedicated academic integrity team, supported by way of full video recordings; Proctor notes and time-stamped alerts; and Access logs. This process ensures that allegations of misconduct are evidence-based, defensible, and aligned with institutional policy.

invigilatorPlus supports custom escalation pathways, allowing academic integrity teams to manage reviews according to their internal frameworks.

Institutional teams can view candidates during the exam proctoring session.

Institutional integration & reporting

The platform allows integration with LMS/CRM etc, enabling academic workflows and outcome tracking. Supports analytics and reporting to help institutions identify trends (e.g., by course, cohort, or invigilator), which can inform future exam design or student support strategies.

The following table provides further insight into how invigilator Plus addresses the key TEQSA focus areas.

Maintaining academic integrity in the online proctoring environment is a high priority for all providers. The Invigilator Plus product is able to ensure this – arguably better than other products on the market.
